About
|
The starting points for Liz's imagery are natural motifs, poetry and the written word, the traditions of her craft or the unexpected that inspires the creative process.
Her portfolios show the range and style of her work and the variety of techniques employed. Fabric is dyed, printed, cut and pieced or appliquéd and then stitched by hand or machine to produce a unique picture or wall hanging. |

The Legacy of Tradition
|
My work has its roots in the traditional techniques of quilting and embroidery. This knowledge is invaluable when constructing contemporary pieces of work.
'Ellen Peacey's Quilt' - I was commissioned to replicate a beautiful, late 19th century corded coverlet which was made by the client’s relative, who coincidentally lived in a village very near to me. The original coverlet was hand stitched with channels in the cloth which were threaded with cotton cord to give a raised design. It is a very attractive quilting technique. The designs consisted of leaves, circles, flowers and hearts in the style of traditional Welsh quilts and constructed like a log cabin quilt, in strips, around a diamond lattice medallion centre. I copied and made templates of the design elements which I then stitched by machine and corded. |
