However, after a long conversation with friend outside the supermarket about life and our difficulty getting on with things sometimes( to be fair, it was raining again), I came home and started looking at some photos I'd taken on a boat trip around Bristol docks. I had a photo of office blocks which had some interesting reflections, so played with the colour and layered an image of a butterfly over the surface. I printed this on to BJS treated recycled cotton sheeting and was very surprised with the sharp print that I got. I also printed it on to transparent film - maybe another project.
This is the second of the yellow series of JQ's. I find this a difficult colour, so it was quite a challenge. I love yellow in the garden best!

I'm a bit behind with these Journal Quilts, but I resurrected a sample of textures and added some piping and more stitching. I've used stitched tucks, stuffed eyelets, threaded buttonholes, twin needling, couched threads, piping and torn fabric strips. Looking out of my kitchen window this piece is rather like the view of the fields and planting patterns - also the flattened wheat! I've just finished the June Quilt so will publish soon - when it stops raining and I can get a good photo in daylight. "Four days will quickly steep themselves in night; Four nights will quickly dream away the time; And then the moon, like to a silver bow New -bent in heaven shall behold the night Of our solemnities." Midsummer Night's Dream - Shakespeare. This is spoken by Hippolyta in the second stanza in Act 1. The piece is printed, painted and stitched in four sections. The panel was appliquéd on to velvet which has also been machined and hand stitched with a lurex thread. My aim was to create a moody and magical piece reflecting the woods and the spirits at night. I decided to turn the stitched scrim to the back of the piece to reveal all of the five slashed organza shapes which are printed with the quotation. The piece has been made for an exhibition in the Weaver's Gallery, Ledbury, Herefordshire. June 26th to July 8th 2012. |
