Detail of new piece for Weaver's Gallery Exhibition, Ledbury.

This is a close up of detail from my new piece which will be exhibited at the Weaver's Gallery in Ledbury to coincide with the poetry festival there at the end of June. The brief this year is Shakespeare influenced. I have taken the idea of reveal and conceal and Midsummer Night's Dream and have printed, painted and stitched a woodland background with hidden wing shapes and hints of activity among the trees. I've used velvet again, which I love using, silk organza and embroidered scrim as a cobweb- like curtain.

Lichen in red

April 2012 Journal Quilt

This piece started as a photograph of lichen on tree bark. I changed the colour to red with blue contrasting rectangles. It was then machine stitched with added knots and chains embroidered by hand.
The piece was then further painted with Inktense blocks.

March 2012 Journal Quilt

The design for this piece was taken from a slide of a human cerebellum at about 10x magnification. I was intrigued by the shape as it is very plant- like and reminiscent of lichen structures.
The brief was to use shades of red so I chose three shades of pink for the background. One section was needled with wool tops and another had a pink spider net on the surface which was also needled to distort it. The brain stem was appliquéd on the surface with a black chiffon behind.
